Rivermen Coaches Show: Brad Kupiec

Q- How long have you been affiliated with the Peoria Rivermen?

A- This will be my fourth season as the play-by-play voice of the Rivermen.

Q- What’s your background in Sports Broadcasting?

A-  I’ve wanted to be a sports broadcaster for as long as I can remember. I started calling high school and D1 college sports during my time as an undergrad at Eastern Illinois University, where I graduated in December 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a double minor in communication studies and Kinesiology/Sports Studies. I moved to Peoria to work as a Broadcast & Media assistant for the Peoria Chiefs during the 2015 season, and made connections that led to my current full-time job with the Rivermen.

Q- When does the season start?

A- Our first regular-season home game is Friday, November 2!

Q- What are you most looking forward to this season?

A- I’m honestly really looking forward to our new rivalry this season with the Quad City Storm, it’ll be great to have another team so close, I think fans on both sides will travel well, and that will make the games even more exciting!

Q- Any bold predictions?

A-  I think this is the year the Rivermen finally exorcise their finals demons and win a President’s Cup!

Q- What has been your favorite moment with them so far?

A- Honestly, it would have to be the overtime win over Columbus January 21, 2017. We had a huge crowd in attendance, Ben Zobrist was on hand and his wife was going to perform a postgame concert, the Columbus team had been through a bus crash and quite an ordeal that went along with that on their way into town, so for them to be able to play the game at all was incredible. They came storming out of the gate and took a 4-1 lead, the Rivermen battled back to tie the game and send it into overtime, and then Peoria won the game on a highlight-reel goal so spectacular the NHL network called us the next morning asking for the footage. It was the perfect storm of a scenario with the perfect ending, and it’s a night I’ll remember as long as I live.

Q- Tell us about the Coaches Show on 101.1 ESPN Peoria

A- The Coaches Show is shaping up to be a fun time, we’ll have myself, ESPN Radio’s Tim van Straten, and Dave Eminian talking hockey with our wonderful head coach and a rotating cast of Rivermen players throughout the season. Whether fans are live at the Fieldhouse in Campustown or listening on radio, I’m looking forward to making it a fun time for all involved!
