13 years radio, 6+ on Peoria TV. Started in ‘88 in Northern Michigan radio and progressed to Grand Rapids, Toledo and Detroit before The Morning Mix (WMBD-TV) came calling in ’96.
Worst TV interviews:
Anna Nicole Smith (got pissed when I asked her, “What’s the deal with you and the old guy?” William Shatner, who seemed seriously hung over that day in Vegas.
Where’d The Nickname Come From?
9th grade baseball bench. Missed tryouts due to chicken pox. New coach kept me, then sat me for half the season. Rather than bitch, I became “Dr. J. Leaky,” adopting a cheesy German accent. Teammates would ask questions about sports and girls, the latter having had no experience with.
Hobbies:
Playing old man hockey, drinking alcohol in moderation, jogging the trail, walking dogs, eating like an adolescent, writing, keeping up appearances at The Watson Compound.
Who Else Calls The Compound Home?
Wife-Linda, Youngest kid - Lauren, two stud Siberian huskies, old mutt and neighborhood cat.
Would You Ever Coach Hockey Again?
Maybe, but only if the parents grow up.

Red Wings and Michigan football.
Won’t Watch:
WNBA basketball or The X Games, even at gunpoint.
Could Do Without:
Cellphone. I’m old skool. Miss the old days when each home had one phone and the only privacy you got was stretching the cord around a corner.
